Chilton Hospital Holds Second Annual Special Care Nursery Reunion to Celebrate its “Graduates”
Chilton Hospital held its second annual Special Care Nursery Reunion on October 19 to celebrate the lives of its “graduates.” The families of anyone born at Chilton’s Level II Special Care Nursery since 2008 were invited.
A total of 35 graduates attended this year’s event, nearly doubling the 18 attendees from last year.
“Not only did we have more graduates, we also experienced many more brothers, sisters, fathers and grandparents attending the celebration this year,” said Chilton’s Neonatal Services Clinical Coordinator Carol Boyce, RNC. “News is getting out that this reunion is not just for moms to enjoy. Our community members who start their families here are also recognizing that they’re part of a much bigger family: the Chilton family. Dr. Forrest Chilton II named the hospital in 1947 after his son who gave his live to serve our country. We want to carry on the tradition of keeping this a family-oriented hospital.”
Carol’s son, Matthew, who was born at Chilton Hospital 24 years ago, provided live entertainment during the reunion by playing songs on the keyboard. The event also included amusement by Hug-A-Me the clown, gift bags and a full assortment of food and drinks. Six handcrafted table centerpieces created by Special Care Nursery Nurse Lorrie Dooley, RN, were raffled off to the moms. Each graduate received a t-shirt with the announcement, “I’m a Graduate” on the front and signatures of all of Chilton’s Special Care nurses on the back.
