Excelsior Lumber hosts Kinnelon Cub Scouts

Excelsior Lumber, located at 140 Hamburg Turnpike in Butler, NJ, hosted Cub Scout Den 12 and helped them earn their Wolf Badge.  Bob Kaslander, owner and hands on operator of our local hardware store, lumber yard and kitchen remodeling specialist, set up a very special day for these scouts.  Jason Budd and his trusty side-kick, his daughter Maren, showed the boys around the huge lumber yard parents asked questions.  Afterwards, the scouts got a lesson on the proper use and care of some common tools. Their final reward was to build a bird house. The boys had a great time taking turns using a drill and learning the right steps in takes to complete a project correctly.  Each scout was able to take home their own pieces to complete their very own bird house. The birds of Kinnelon have never had it so good.

Excelsior Lumber was once a train yard and one of their many storage areas use to have a train running right through it. These days, they specialize in lumber and Excelsior Kitchens, located on premises, has an excellent kitchen remodeling facility.

Den 12, Sean Ford, Sullivan Denbleyker, Smith Denbleyker, Max Connelly and Jimmy Lazarus and their siblings Katie Ford, Jack Lazarus and Patrick Lazarus had a great day. Fellow scout, James Vandemeulebroeke, was unable to attend.

Great seeing the Cubs earning their belt loops. I'm sure they had fun. On a side note tho, Cubs aren't suppose to handle power tools (even under adult supervision). I was a Cubby w/Pack 77 back in the 60's, and now I have my grandsons in Cubs and have my own Pack. Just keeping the tradition going. Go Scouts!
