9/11 Ceremonies to Be Held

A list of nearby activities for you and your family.

 

There are many ways to commemorate the tenth anniversary of 9/11, some even in your own backyard.

In the tri-boro alone, Butler and Bloomingdale residents will be participating in the Candlelight Walk on Sunday. Glow sticks will be provided by the borough police departments and participants will walk from the parking lot of Bloomingdale Borough Hall to Butler Park.

Here's the full list of what's happening this weekend:

Candlelight Walk
Where/When:
Beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday at 101 Hamburg Turnpike, Bloomingdale (behind Borough Hall).
Why Go:
To honor those who lost their lives on 9/11.
Price:
Free.

World Trade Center Artifact Dedication
Where/When:
On the grass in front of the Kinnelon Municipal Building at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Why Go:
Kinnelon Mayor Bob Collins and the Kinnelon Council will be dedicating a World Trade Center artifact the borough received last month.
Pricing:
Free.

16th Annual Townwide Garage Sale
Where/When: All day Sept. 10 in the Borough of Butler (rain date Sept. 11)
Why Go: Because you can buy cool things from your neighbors.
Pricing: Depends what you buy.

9/11 Memorial on the Green
Where/When:
From noon to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at The Green in Morristown.
Why Go:
Because Americans for Liberty will honoring the victims and heroes of Sept. 11, 2001.
Pricing:
Free.

Memorial Swim Honoring K9 Heroes of 9/11
Where/When:
 From 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at Lake-Vu Deli Grocery in Hopatcong.
Why Go:
Because this is the third annual Tom Wear Memorial Swim to honor K9 teams called to action on 9/11.
Pricing:
Free.

Running Company Beginner Group Runs
Where/When: From 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Morristown Running Company.
Why Go: Because you are a beginner who wants to start running, regardless of age.
Pricing: Free.

'Othello' Playing at The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey
Where/When:
 From 8 to 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, at The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey in Madison.
Why Go:
Because a night at the theater sounds like a great way to spend your weekend. Plus, this play hasn’t been seen on The Shakespeare Theatre stage since 2003.
Pricing:
 $32 to $55.

Greystone Photo Exhibit
Where/When:
 From 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at The Morristown & Morris Township Library.
Why Go:
You can stop by the library and check out this new collection of photographs recently added to its Digital Collections.
Pricing:
 Free.

Comedian Jim Breuer Live
Where/When:
 At 8 p.m. on Saturday at Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown.
Why Go:
 Because a Saturday night laughing at Jim Breuer’s antics sounds like loads of fun.
Pricing: 
$32 to $67.

Saturday Morning Road Ride
Where/When:
Starting at Marty’s Reliable Cycle at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 12 and trekking 20 miles through Harding and Chatham, then back to Morristown.
Why Go:
Because you’d like a workout to start your Saturday morning, or because the weather is warming up. Rain or snow cancels.
Pricing: Free.
