Butler Councilman in Alleged Road Rage Incident

Police said they were unable to determine who ‘primary aggressor’ was in the incident.

Butler Councilman Sean McNear was involved in what Butler police called a “road rage” incident on Route 23 North near Applebee’s on Saturday morning.

Patrolman George Beyloune responded to the scene and spoke with McNear, 44, who police said was the driver of one vehicle, and Steven Meyers, 45, of Towaco, who was driving another vehicle. Police said both drivers said there was an alleged incident of inappropriate driving between them on Interstate 287 and that they continued to drive on to Route 23.

Police said both drivers reported they exchanged several inappropriate gestures and comments, after which the vehicles collided into each other. Both drivers also said the incident was caused by the opposite driver, police said.

“Due to the lack of uninvolved witnesses, the police were unable to determine who the primary aggressor was,” police said in a press release.

No injuries were reported and no citations were issued, although police told each driver about complaint procedures should they be interested in pursuing charges against one another.

OMG REALLY..... “road rage” cz nobody has ever given anyone else the finger while driving or yelled at the car that is driving to fast or switching lanes ever 5sec or ect ect ect.... Or calling the cops to report parking complaints. And i like that RESIGN.. thats seems to be every ones response lately. why dont you just run against them and see if you can do a better job, then we can pick you apart instead. its not like their doing any worst then the crap job the pres. is doing. Im sure this wouldn't have made head lines on the Patch if it wasnt a "Councilman" since their are dozens of car accidents and road rage incidents on 23 in butler weekly and we dont read about them on here!!!

James, The article would have still appeared on the site because it was part of the police blotter which we routinely post. Other entries from today can be seen here: http://patch.com/A-t1rH

Have you ever heard about calling 911? Pull over to the side of the road and call the cops and let them sort it out. It should never have gotten that far, up 287, up 23 and ending at the Appleby's. Who are you kidding.
Law and order are not in the vocabulary . Councilman McNear already has allegations of child abuse against him, now this.
It has nothing to do with giving anyone the "finger", both drivers had the opportunity to stop it before it went as far as it did.
You should act and not react, use common sense.
If you are going to continue your ways, then, in my opinion, you should RESIGN, stop giving the Boro a black eye and it's not just one incident.
And just because there are many incidents of "road rage" and accidents in Butler as you state, why should this be the norm?
If five persons jumped off a bridge, do you want to be number six, of course not.

Starting with the police that have been "booted" Aka health reasons, thieves Aka fireman, councilman should we expect them to be outstanding citizens, butler has no chance in this downward spiral good thing my house hunting lead elsewhere man to pay taxes to this nonsense

I loved Butler and have lived here for many, many years, but the current crop of bad behavior by the members of the boro council and fireman are really a disgrace. Yes, we have all gotten angry with some idiot on the road, but to keep that up from 287 to RT 23 seems to indicate an anger issue. This is not the type of behavior that someone who is elected to represent the citizens of Butler should be involved in. The firehouse theft and the child abuse allegations were not confined to our local papers as they were both reported in the star ledger, so if you think that our town is not the state joke think again.

There is a Steven R Meyers listed as a Deuputy warden in the Passaic County judicial system.
Don't know if this is the same individual?
