Trick-or-Treating Back On in Butler, Bloomingdale Saturday

Kinnelon will host Halloween festivities Monday.

No, it's not a trick.

The Borough of Butler has now decided to host trick-or-treating on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The decision to have trick-or-treating was made Friday afternoon after the Halloween festivities were slated to be canceled entirely.

Butler Borough Clerk Mary O'Keefe said residents should still practice caution, as many trees and wires were still down in roads throughout the borough.

Butler Fire Chief Jim Niell said the firehouse is tentatively planning to host its annual Halloween party on Monday evening.

Bloomingdale will also host trick-or-treating on Saturday after Bloomingdale police Chief Joe Borell drive through the borough and determined the streets to be safe enough for children to go out this weekend. Nightmare on Bailey Ave. will also be held Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for seniors and young children. The haunted house will reopen at 6:30 p.m. "to all brave souls," according to organizer Ray Yazdi, and there will also be a flashlight egg haunt at 7 p.m. at 42 Bailey Ave.

Kinnelon will be hosting trick-or-treating on Monday night.

B.S.! That makes two years in a row the little ones get screwed. Why can't the town (since they feel they control Halloween) set up something in one of the schools for the little ones? I will volunteer my time to help out....anyone else?

Bobby L I hear your frustration. I too feel that they should have let the kids walk into live power lines.

NJ Steel....Ha Ha....I guess if you think there are live power lines just hanging inside of the Schools you have more issues then electrocution to be concerned about....

Put it in perspective! People lost there lives and houses this week! Halloween will come again next year, or do something yourselves with your children.

Makes you wonder about their DPW if other towns can make their town safe enough.

Karen, That's the point entirely....Kids should not have to put things into "perspective" they are kids and should not have to be dragged into the doom and gloom that Sandy brought to NJ. I agree with you and feel badly for the many that have lost so much this past week, but let's let the kids be kids.

Thanks Jessica and Ariana,
That's great News for the kids! Now where is Butler hosting this shin-dig? Or is the word "Hosting" just another word for "allowing"?

Yes, allowing. So trick-or-treaters may stop door-to-door.

So Butler over rules the Governor's order and decides to choose Saturday for Trick or Treat? And Kinnelon is keeping it on Monday? A little confusing for our neighborhood that is half Butler and half Kinnelon!! Why can't they just follow orders from the Governor???
