Chief: Man Appears to Have Drowned Accidentally

Body recovered Tuesday.

The body of 35-year-old Kevin McCormick, of Bloomingdale, was found Tuesday afternoon more than 150 yards from the shoreline of Glenwild Lake where he allegedly went missing Sunday morning, Bloomingdale Police Chief Joe Borrell said in a statement.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicates that McCormick accidentally drowned.

Police said McCormick was reported missing on Sunday morning after his family reported that the Glenwild Lake resident did not return home after visiting a friend's house on the lake. Several units began a search of the area and as the State Police Marine Service Bureau, Crime Scene North Unit, T.E.A.M.S Unit, Bloomingdale Police Department and Bergen County Sheriff Department K-9 Unit continued the search Tuesday, the body was recovered.

Police said a follow-up investigation will be conducted by the Regional Medical Examiner in Newark.

Patch will have updates on this story.

Kevin was a gentle, good natured man....smart...dependable...funny. He was a good neighbor who made you feel you were the only person in the room when he chatted with you. He will be missed by many. May his memory be for a blessing.

This is absolutely devastating. Kevin was so young, passionate, and full of life. He had so much more to give on this earth and it is a tragedy that was taken from us. I will never forget him as he was a great friend and kind person. Rest in peace and may God bless Kevin's family during this very difficult time.

Kevin was my beloved cousin. I can't remember his face without a broad smile or a mischievous grin. I am so, so sad. He was a wonderful, happy, warm person, and he and his wife had a beautiful relationship and shared love of life. They were perfect companions. This makes no sense in the world. I am heartbroken.

Shocked and saddened to hear about this. My wife and I used to work with him and he was always a really good guy. He was way too young. Our hearts go out to his family.

Kevin was a neighbor of mine. Didn't know Kevin well but I do know he was a very nice man. Always said hello and very friendly. I remember at one party (I had just met him) he talked to my wife and I for over an hour. When I think of GWL I think of Kevin and his presence. 35 years is too short. He deserved much more.....My prayers to the family.

I met Kevin's father at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix on Sunday night. He was sitting on a bench crying his heart out. I asked if I could do anything for him and he told me his son was missing; we prayed together. I've been praying ever since for closure and comfort for his family. May the Peace of God be with each of you.

I didn't know him very well, but the one important thing that I do remember, he was always smiling. Additionally, a very gentle, kind person. He was taken way too early from us. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and his entire family. God bless all of you. Jody DiMarcello ~95 SHS
