Drunk Driver Crashed Into Rock Wall, Cops Say

Police said man's alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit.

A Bergenfield man was charged with DWI Friday after police said his blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit when he crashed his car on top of a rock wall on Fairview Avenue in Butler.

Dean Giardini, 52, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent. He was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 bail with no 10 percent option.

Officers responded to the street around 3:45 p.m. to see the red Saturn Giardini was driving disabled and on top of the wall, according to a report released by Butler Police Capt. Ciro Chimento.

Giardini was still sitting inside the car and police said he showed signs of intoxication. He was arrested and transported to the Butler police station, where breath samples showed he was well over, by about three times, the legal limit for alcohol while driving. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
