A Foothill Road home that was on fire in the early morning hours Thursday has since been deemed safe by fire officials, according to Kinnelon Police Lt. John Schwartz.
Schwartz said two residents of the home were inside when the fire was reported at 3:52 a.m. When Kinnelon Volunteer Fire Co. firefighters arrived at the scene, flames could be seen coming from the second floor.
"The residents were already out of the house," Schwartz said.
Schwartz said the fire appeared to have started in the area of a gas-burning fireplace in the master bedroom, although fire officials are still working to determine how the fire ignited and spread.
Firefighters and police were on the scene for about two hours. No injuries were reported and no other damage was incurred, Schwartz said.

Although I was not able to be there, from what I heard from Butler members who were the Kinnelon Volunteer Fire Company did an amazingly fast job of knocking down the red devil.
When I did hear KVFC's pager tone and verbal alert it brough back memories of 38 years ago on Christmas morning 1974 at about the same time when multiple members of the Knapp family died when their nearby Hearthstone Drive home blazed. That fire was attributed to leaving the Christmas tree lights on all night and derw national attention by the Consumer Products Safety Commission and other agencies.

Not sure why I googled this issue tonight. I was a classmate of Terry's in Kinnelon. I moved from Kinnelon to Massachusetts about 6 weeks prior to the fire and remember hearing of it as a kid. My Mom was the school nurse at Pearl Miller when we moved. I have thought of him every few years in the nearly 40 years since it happened. As I recall he was a very nice kid. Glad to see they are not forgotten. I hope his siblings have done well
