Help Neighbors, Ask for Help on Patch

Talk to each other on this post, help each other get through this tough time.

The worst of Hurricane Sandy has passed and residents of Morris County are trying to resume normal lives again in the wake of the storm.

Many people are without power, many more are without gasoline to run their generators.

Our Morris County Patch sites are providing this forum where residents can post their contact information with a description of an item they are willing to donate to those in the greater coverage area hit hardest by Hurricane Sandy.

Those affected by the storm can reach out to donors whose items fit their needs. Families who lost possessions in the storm are also welcome to post details about what they need.

To do so, please use the comments section below.

Hi, I need to get into midtown Manhattan for a 3:00 pm meeting on Monday. What's the best bus, and place to catch it? Any other suggestions?

Not sure where you are trying to get from. If you're not on or near a NJTransit route, Lakeland Bus also runs to the Port Authority Bus Terminal on 42nd street at 8th Avenue.

Things you can do to help your neighbors if you have electricity: make/freeze ice for their coolers or fridges, check if they need a ride or food if you're going to the store (helps save gas), open your wifi or share your wifi passwords (you can always change them after things get better). Share candles, batteries. Don't forget to check on elderly, those with special needs, those who struggle with mental illness. Be kind and patient with one another-whether in line for gas, or the parking lot at Kings!

Yes,
The Township Fire Dept. is taking donations. I would guess that the Morristown Fired. Dept. is doing the same.

Hello. I have a reservation at the Hamilton Park Hotel in Florham Park, NJ for Saturday 11/3/12. I called, and was told by one person that they have full power and are open, and then another person told me they are on a generator, and not accepting any guests. Does anyone know the truth? Thank you, Andrea

The sweet spot bake shop is taking a truck down to the shore. I am sure the will take your used clothing.

TransOptions.org has transportation information. Elissa's suggestions are all great ones. As nights get colder please check on elderly and disabled neighbors. Local OEM contacts can transport them to Mennen, for hot showers, food and even overnight accommodations. Mennen is now "pet friendly", too. Above all, make sure generators are being used safely, so that carbon monoxide fumes can not get into anyone's home!

If anyone is in need of fire wood we have a lot from our downed trees. It's precut to fireplace size just come to 45 Quail Run in Long Valley off of Flocktown. Just back your truck up on the side yard and pick it up. As much as you can carry for free.

The Chatham Farmer's Market is open. Village Hardware & Paint on Main St has 5 gallon gas cans available but they're selling them for $40 each!

That's price gouging and is illegal. You should take a pic and report them!

village hardware has substantially raised price on many items from what i understand. i bought 2 5 gallon cans for $ 40.00 each from them and it left a really bad taste in my mouth. i contacted the attorney general consumer affairs department to alert them to this. if they are price gouging i hope they get the book thrown at them. they will not see any of my business again.

2000 sandwich boxes will be available at 6 pm for anyone in need. They will be distributed at the parking lot behind Trinity United Methodist Church in Hackettstown. Spread the word!
