Kinnelon Firehouse On-Schedule for August Completion

New two-story firehouse will have three bays.

The Kinnelon Volunteer Fire Co.'s newest firehouse, on Boonton Avenue, is still slated for an Aug. 1 completion date.

According to Suburban Trends, the contractor on the project to construct the new two-story building assured Kinnelon Mayor Bob Collins that the project will be finished on time.

The new firehouse will have three bays, as opposed to the two bays on the existing firehouse. Fire company members have been approaching the Kinnelon Council for several years requesting a new firehouse be built because the existing facility was not large enough to accomodate newer, larger fire trucks.

Liam Design/Build was awarded the bid for construction of Fire Co. 2. for $1,091,875 last October. Additionally, the borough planned to receive an $80,000 Morris County grant toward the demolition of the existing firehouse, located several feet away from the new facility.

In the new building, a multi-purpose room, that will be used for firefighter training and as a shelter for firefighters who need to stay over in an extreme storm event, will be available.

Last week, the Kinnelon Volunteer Fire Co. posted several photos of the interior of the new firehouse on their Facebook page.
