Loose Marijuana Allegedly Found Scattered on Riverdale Man’s Front Seats

Police said 18-year-old had locked safe with marijuana in trunk.

An 18-year-old Riverdale man was charged with possession of marijuana 50 grams or less after police said they allegedly found loose marijuana scattered on the front seats of his vehicle, partially smoked marijuana cigarettes on the floorboards of the car, a residual amount of marijuana inside a locked safe in the trunk and several bags commonly used for packaging marijuana in the car on Friday.

Gregory M. Mish was stopped by Butler police on Route 23 North at about 2:03 p.m. for allegedly having faulty brake lights on his white Acura. Upon further investigation, police said they allegedly discovered an odor of marijuana. Police then allegedly found the marijuana in the car and, with help from the Pequannock Police Department Ptl. Ricciardi and his dog Jemma, located the marijuana in the safe in the trunk.

Mish was arrested and transported to the Butler police station. In addition to the drug charges, he was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a motor vehicle with a controlled dangerous substance, failure to maintain lamps and failure to exhibit a valid driver’s license. He was released in his own recognizance with a ticket to appear in court at a later date.

Police said the Kinnelon and Pequannock police departments assisted with the arrest.

Butler Police Department disclaimer: A charge is merely an accusation and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Now That poor kid has:
- No chance of student lawns (he could get them if he was a convicted murderer or rapist though)
- A permanent blemish upon future job application
ALL for doing something that 43% of Americans have admitted to trying at some time in their youth including our past five US Presidents. How about regulate marijuana like alcohol so people that under 21 will not be able to get it without ID at any street corner or school.

what a complete and utter waste of time and resources. If police have enough time on their hands to bust otherwise law abiding citizens for possessing a plant that grows out of the ground. we should probably cut all their funding. this is ridiculous. The studies are out. People know now that they have been wrongly prosecuted and oppressed by the police for the past 40 years. it's a farce, marijuana is safer than asprin. the truth is out. the gravy train is over police, the day is coming. the US government should pay restitution to everyone and their families for wrongful imprisonment. these laws are against every fundamental principal of America. don't believe me. lets asks some of our founding fathers what they thought of the "Evil Herb"

"Prohibition... goes beyond the bound of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded" -Abraham Lincoln

This persons life is ruined, no student loans, criminal record. do the police that arrested him even know that just by this arrest, This person will not be addmitted into 75% of the countries worldwide and you wont know until after you bought your ticket, got on the plane, arrive at the country and they see this pop up in your criminal history at customs.

the illegality of this makes is more desireable and makes it easier to get. if we taxed and reulated this stuff. organized crime would be crushed overnight, immediately losing 60 or even 70% of thier income, policve time would be freed up to go after REAL criminals. you know rapists, murderers, thieves, we could dramtically decrease Funding to the DEA and we wouldnt have to pay 40,000$ a year to incarcerate some 19 year old kid whos only crime was posessing a dried up plant. Prohibition only glamourizes this stuff

I have a son. i don't want him to smoke marijuana, but even more so, I dont want him coming home in handcuffs. locked up in the back of a squad car and have his life blemished forever, that's a million times m,ore harmful to our youth than the plant could ever be. I can talk to my son about these things and tell him the dangers. that's my job as a parent, not the job of law enforcement,

If this young man had smoked his pot in his home, the police would not have bothered him. Instead, he choose to smoke it in his car and drive on the State Highway "feeling the buzz". Well, I drive on that same highway as well does my wife and children! Im glad they stopped him and took him off the road before he hit and injured or killed someone! Getting high on dope and driving is just as dangerous as getting drunk on booze.

or we could just legalize it take a few steps back and let the cards fall where they may and if theres a raise in any crimes related to marijuana, then start regulating it...
especially considering that the men in charge of placing these laws to begin with were racists ...
“There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz, and swing, result from marijuana use. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers, and any others.”
“Reefer makes darkies think they’re as good as white men.”
Harry J. Anslinger

just saying...
