Oatmeal and Pups in Need of Good Home

Lovable, adoptable pets from tri-boro animal shelters updated weekly.

For this week's Pet of the Week, we couldn't resist featuring Butler's newest puppies, as all four and their mother are in need of a new home.

Earlier this week, we brought you the story of Oatmeal, a thin female Coonhound that came to Tri-Boro Welfare, the Butler shelter, in fairly poor condition in October. As shelter volunteers continued to care for her and nurse her back to health, they one day stumbled on a surprise in her cage: a puppy. Four more were born that night on Nov. 30.

Read their story here.

One of the puppies passed away, but after Oatmeal is spayed and the puppies are at least eight weeks old, both the mother and the puppies will be in need of a home.

Here is some more information about Oatmeal and the puppies:

Age:  Oatmeal, one year old; Puppies, one-and-a-half weeks old

Sex:  Oatmeal, female; Puppies, three males and one female

Breed: Coonhound

Training: Oatmeal, Yes; Puppies, no

Why your tail should wag over Oatmeal and her puppies: Oatmeal's story is inspiring and despite coming to the shelter ill, she's been a great mom so far! The puppies are cute as can be and if anything, adopting Oatmeal or her pups will help there be less animals in the shelter.

If interested in Oatmeal or the puppies, contact Tri-boro Animal Welfare, the Butler shelter, at 973-838-5555. Adoption hours are Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. or by appointment at 12 Belleview Avenue.
