Route 15 Could be Renamed for Ronald Reagan

Republican legislators propose naming a highway in northwestern New Jersey for the nation's 40th president.

"The Great Communicator" may soon have a stretch of New Jersey highway named after him.

Under a bill introduced earlier this year by Republican legislators in the Deomcrat-controlled Assembly, the late President Ronald Reagan would have a state highway in northwestern New Jersey named in his honor, according to a Newark Star-Ledger article

In February, several Route 15 business owners were split as to whether naming the highway after Reagan would help sales.

Only one former president — Warren Harding — has received such as an accolade in New Jersey, with a 4-mile section of Route 48 in Salem County named in his honor, according to the article.

If approved by the state Assembly and Senate, and then signed by Gov. Christopher J. Christie, the proposed legislation would designate Route 15, a 19.5-mile state highway in northwestern New Jersey, as the "Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway."

Naming Route 15, which stretches from Frankford Township in Sussex County to Dover in Morris County, in Reagan’s honor would not change its official numerical designation, regardless of its honorary name, state Department of Transportation spokesman Timothy Greeley told the Star-Ledger

The name change would require putting up two to four blue rectangular signs on the side of the road, one at each entrance, he told the newspaper.

The legislators who proposed the name change would be responsible for paying for the signs, said Greeley, who told the Star-Ledger he didn't know how much the signs would cost.

Reagan, a former Hollywood actor, visited South Jersey in September 1984, stumping in Hammonton, Atlantic County, as he sought a second term. During that visit, Reagan famously referenced the songs of New Jersey native Bruce Springsteen. Soon after, Springsteen asked Reagan's campaign to stop using his song "Born in the U.S.A" as its theme song.

Reagan died in 2004.

Doesn't this state have more important things to worry about. Route 15 is fine being named Route 15.

It's funny how republicans, who are so big on preaching about government waste, have no problem wasting time and money on this nonsense. To rename Route 15 after it has been know by this number after many decades, will cause nothing but confusion. Don’t spend our tax dollars fixing what isn’t broken.

This has been a Michael Patrick Carroll staple for years, now. In fact, I think since he has been in the Assembly. Assemblyman Carroll as a super Conservative and hater of government, prides himself on never bringing any money back to the 25th district. He also wanted to change the name of Clinton, NJ to Reagan, NJ. What he doesn't mind about Government is that almost every dollar he earns comes from some taxpayer supported branch of Government.

Not to mention the cost involved, I have to chuckle upon hearing that somebody in South Jersey named a road after Warren Harding.....now that's a travesty in itself! Whether the Teapot Dome oil rights scandal, the White House gin-and-poker parties during Prohibition, or the Nan Britton sex scandal (as made famous on the Boardwalk Empire series), Harding would be among the last US president I could find a basis to commemorate. Rt 15 will always be known as Rt 15, this name change wont effect the change - It will be just like a stretch of Rt 80 is known as Christopher Columbus Highway - Id take Reagans name over Obamas anyday

So in other words.... it's a worthless piece of legislation that will have no effect at all, and is therefore a waste of our tax dollars.

Read the bill

     2.  No State or other public funds shall be used for producing, purchasing, or erecting signs pursuant to section 1 of this act.  The Commissioner of Transportation is authorized to receive gifts, grants, or other financial aid in any form from any private source for the purpose of funding the costs associated with producing, purchasing, and erecting signs pursuant to section 1 of this act.

The fact that the bill was written is a waste of our tax dollars... the fact that our legislators wasted time discussing this and writing the bill is a waste of tax dollars, as well as a diversion from more important matters. The cost of the signs has nothing to do with it.

"Just say no!" Look, we already have Reagan National Airport, USS Ronald Reagan super-carrier, Reagan Presidential Library. Enough is enough! Plus, he was a B-List actor and a B-List president! "Just say no!"

Warts and all, Ronald Reagan was head and shoulders over the dog-eating usurper squatting in the White House these days. That said, spending tax dollars on renaming anything in anyone's name should not exactly be the top priority.

A usurper is defined as one who wrongfully or illegally seizes and holds the place of another. Obama won the election fair and square. Calling him names only diminishes you, not him.

I'll give Obama respect due his office when I see his birth certificate, not the fake he posted. Until then, he's an usurper and an oath breaker.

Time for you, Jerome Corsi and the rest of the birthers to get over yourselves. Either that or put on your tin foil hats and wait for the next message from Sherrif Arpaio.

So according to Maxim Sapozhnikov, I should be deported to Kenya because I don't believe our president was born in the US. So now American citizens who disagree with your far right ideology should be stripped of their citizenship? And here I though the GOP was the party of personal freedom. I guess it's only if you agree with their racist and bigoted views.

So according to Cara DePalma, I should be sentenced to wearing a tinfoil hat because I am computer literate capable of looking at PDF file internals. Obviously, you have never considered doing that? And here I thought the Democrats were the party of education and intelligence. I guess it's only if you agree to count room temperature IQ as intelligence.

You are obviously NOT computer literate, because if you were, you would know that all PDF files have layers, even if they were created from simple scans. The birther argument that the PDF of Obama's birth certificate is fake because of the existence of layers is nothing short of moronic. Of course, this arguments also ignores the fact that Obama provided a short-form certificate four years ago, that was handled and verified by third parties. Corsi is charlatan who is making loads of money off of ignorant people like Max, who gladly lap his BS right up.

These so-called "third parties" are owned lock stock and barrel by the same people who bankrolled 2008 elections. We had this discussion before; no reason to spam the Patch again. You're deaf to my argument, and I'm not exactly receptive to yours, either.

>> Corsi is charlatan who is making loads of money off of ignorant people

I don't care who Corsi is, but I'll not put up with personal insults from a hooker man. If you want his kind of "discussion", go and perform an anatomically impossible act on yourself.

Listen, I tried to read Corsi's book, but it's the unreadable ramblings of a deranged person. I watched the Arpaio "press conference" where he uncovered no new evidence of fraud. Birthers across the country are denoucing this scandal, most recently a candidate in North Carolina has recanted this nonsense. And the Charlotte Observer recently withdrew their endorsement of a candidate after he expressed birther views. By the way, Obama's mother was a citizen of the US which makes him one too, regardless of where he was born, although I know you probably like to ignore facts.

As far as your comment about being able to find PDF's on the internet, it makes perfect sense with your views. I prefer getting my information from books with actual documented sources than pdf's on the internet. But then those pesky facts may get in the way of your arguement. Keep throwing insults and keep calling names. To be called unintelligent by you is a badge of honor.

Cara, you "prefer getting your information from books", while I prefer looking at the actual sources. I have never even considered reading Corsi's book - that makes you more of a birther than I am - but, unlike you and your fellow Obots, I can think and analyze facts. So show some respect to the PDF I talk about - in fact, I fully expect you to worship it on your knees, since it was allegedly scanned by Obama himself.

An internal industry document created by agents trying to sell an author. Yup, incontrovertable proof to people who already believe this BS.

Andrew Breitbart, may he rest in peace, had to deal with extremely hostile press, so he carefully avoided making any statements he couldn't back with ironclad facts. just a day before his death, he told his friends that he's got enough material to bury Obama, and he will publish them before the election. Maybe this is just the first piece.
