Samuel R. Donald Improvements Nearing Completion
Officials hoping construction work will be finished by the time students return to school Wednesday.
The roofing project at the Samuel R. Donald School is still not yet complete, although school district officials are hopeful construction will wrap up before Bloomingdale students return to school Wednesday, according to the Suburban Trends.
The Trends reported that the roofing project was scheduled to be completed by Aug. 20, although the contractor did not begin work on the roof before Aug. 13.
The roofing project is one of many the district undertook this summer in between school years after the Bloomingdale Public Schools Board of Education approved several capital projects this year. The specific Samuel R. Donald School improvements approved in February included roof replacement of the main and wing buildings, underground stormwater line replacement and paving. The Samuel R. Donald School also underwent asbestos removal.
Additionally, roof repairs and parking lot paving were scheduled to be completed at the Walter T. Bergen School. Sewer line installation is also being completed at the Walter T. Bergen School.
The board of education decided in July of last year to use $150,000 in additional state aid for capital improvement projects throughout the district in the current year. At the board's August meeting, Business Administrator George Hagl said most of the projects were on schedule.
