Scammers Targeting PSE&G Customers, Company Says

Individuals should be wary of someone calling from the "disconnect collection department."

Public Service Electric & Gas is alerting its customers to a scam involving pre-paid debt cards.

A Spanish-speaking individual pretending to be a PSE&G employee will call a customer saying they work for the company’s “disconnect collection department,” the company said in a press release Tuesday. The person tells the customer that they have an overdue balance and their service will be shut off that day unless they pay their balance using a prepaid debit card.

Customers are told to purchase a Green Dot Money Pak card and put a balance on it and provide the cashier with the phone number of the person who called them.

After the customer provides PSE&G with the card number, the scammer transfers the funds to a prepaid card and cashes it in at an ATM.

Scammers seem to be targeting customers in Hispanic neighborhoods, the company said.

PSE&G is working with law enforcement agencies to investigate the scam.

Customers who doubt the legitimacy of any alleged call from PSE&G should call the utility company at 800-436-7734.

It's pretty obvious, you're a hater my friend. By the way, maybe you should brush up on your English grammar before making your next comment.

No one is calling you stupid. Maybe you would like to expand on what you really meant with your initial comment. While you're at it, why add your "slow down" comment to the mix? I believe, everyone needs to speak and write English, furthermore I don't begrudge or hold it against anyone for speaking another language. I believe you set a president for being called a hater with your comments. I'm hater a hater as well...but only when it comes to ignorant comments regarding people who are being taken advantage of by crooks.

Ok Walter, what I was saying here is due to my own lack of intelligence, my own inability to be bilingual I've actually benefited because I cant get scammed if I don't speak the language. It was a joking comment and a dig at myself. I cant go any slower than that.
chill on the hate, Patch comments are filled with hate...... shoot for humor, you call it stupid, you're right, it's stupid humor but harmless....Im just entertaining myself, looking for overreactions from people.

We got several calls and it wasn't Spanish-speaking persons in any of those cases, I am Latin American and believe me I would know, it was really difficult to understand them and I am glad I didn't. It doesn't matter where this people come from, what's really important is to stop them from trying to take our money, it just don't belong to them, if they are so creative to do something like this they should use their imagination for something else.
