Snowy Footprints Lead to Man Accused of Burglary Attempt
Wayne resident caught after being scared off by homeowner when he tried to break into Lincoln Park residence, police said.
A Wayne man was charged with attempted burglary after Lincoln Park police reported he attempted to gain entry to a residence by smashing a window.
Scott Gelok, 26, was charged with attempted burglary and possession of burglary tools, police said.
Gelok knocked on the front door of a Crefeld Court residence Tuesday afternoon and went to the rear of the residence and smashed a backdoor window when no one answered, Lincoln Park Police said.
Gelok fled the area when the homeowner yelled, police said.
Officers were able to follow Gelok’s footprints in the freshly fallen snow and located Gelok a short distance from the residence; he was in possession of a hammer when officers found him, police said.
Bail was set at $15,000 with no 10 percent option. Gelok was unable to post bail and transported to the Morris County jail.
