Some Power Restored in Tri-Boro

Police warn residents to be cautious of live, energized wires.

As Stop & Shop was down to just two checkout lanes and empty aisles dimly lit seemed to be a theme, power kicked back on around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, with employees rejoicing and dropping items to see if it was also restored at their own homes.

For some of them, it was as Butler Electric announced that all lines had been renegergized and some residents in Kinnelon, Butler and Bloomingdale would have power restored within minutes. Both Bloomingdale and Butler Main Streets were lit with street lamps and business signs and some residents reported power restoration near Kiel Avenue.

"Butler Power and Light’s sub-station energy has been restored. Power will be restored systematically within all power grids," the electric company said in a Nixle alert message sent Wednesday afternoon.

In Kinnelon, power was restored near Boonton Avenue and Graceview Drive.

"I think it's encouraging that two days into the storm, we do have some power restored," Kinnelon Mayor Bob Collins said.

Collins said he was unsure how many residents' power was restored. He was also unsure how many remained without, though many sections of all three boroughs did not get their power back at that time.

Bloomingdale police Chief Joe Borell said many Bloomingdale residents got their power back as well, but he cautioned residents to be careful of the live wires, as many remained on the ground. Butler Electric also advised residents not to touch the downed lines because they are dangerous and asked residents to report downed lines by calling 973-838-0063.

Well we don't have power yet on my street and our lines are underground. There are no wires down on surrounding streets either so I wouldn't start the party yet!

Butler p&l always seems to come through for us, many thanks to all the people who worked hard in the aftermath of the storm to bring power back to our community! As a resident still without power, has anyone heard an ETA for power on the rest of the grids?

I think I have power back because when I call my house now, my answering machine picks up. I'm at Cambridge Heights on Terrace Lake off of Rt. 23. Let's hope that is right.
