Springsteen to Stump for Obama in Ohio, Iowa
For the close race in the states of Ohio and Iowa, New Jersey rockstar, Bruce Springsteen, will take the stage for the Democratic campaign.
Bruce Springsteen will join the campaign trail Thursday for President Obama in Northeast Ohio and Iowa.
The Boss will team up with former President Bill Clinton in Parma, Ohio then head on to Ames, Iowa later on that Thursday for another campaign concert and rally, according to Springsteen's website.
Although, Springsteen previously said he would stay out of the 2012 election, the presidential race in these states is tightening, reported The New York Times.
“His appearance will help with our get-out-the vote effort in these critical swing states, and we are thrilled with his ongoing support,” the Obama-Biden campaign manager, Jim Messina, said in a widely quoted statement.
According to a CNN Poll of Polls, Obama only has a 3 percent lead, at 50 percent, in Ohio among likely voters over Republican candidate Mitt Romney, at 47 percent.
Springsteen has openly supported the Democratic party in the past, performing for Obama's 2008 campaign and at his inauguration, as well as playing rallies for Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts in 2004, reported Spin Magazine.
However, in an interview with The New Yorker, he said he was wary about joining a campaign again. “I did it twice because things were so dire,” Springsteen was quoted saying.
During the 2004 election, Springsteen drew an estimated 80,000 people to a campaign rally in Madison, Wi., according to the San Francisco Chronicle, helping Kerry win the state.

I clearly stated that his albums/concerts aren't free as a follow up to him needing to donate his time/money to the working class.
Helping Asbury Park out is nice. Charging the working class residents of other towns to view his concerts makes it a zero sum gain.
Put another way, if he charges me so that he can do something for you (after he takes his cut off the top), why not just cut him out and I'll give you the money directly without the middleman fees?

XJS - I am a BS music fan, and I certainly don't like his politics, especially when he used to waste his fans' time at concerts with it. But clearly you don't know anything about the guy or are shooting from the lip, because BS donates an inordinate amount of time/concert proceeds to helping the needy. He donates a lot to the community foodbanks on each of his recent tours, used to do a Kristin Ann Carr foundation concert, plays local school concerts, plays Asbury Park and does rehearsals there to contribute to the economy, etc. He probably does a lot privately that we'll never hear about, but his charity is not something I would question. The declining quality of the music is another issue but your comment is misplaced. Besides, he can do a lot more good by donating proceeds from enormously successful concerts and recordings than he can by giving them away to people who don't need his charity.

Bellair- I AM the working class.
Again, you're neglecting the fact that the man is charging $100 or more per ticket (I checked his website and ticketmaster to get this information) from the working class to line his pockets.
We can all agree that Bruce Springsteen is a 1 percenter, right? His estimated net worth is over 200 million dollars (the richest dot org). So my point remains - he charges $100 from Peter (his working class concert goers) to give a pittance to Paul (Asbury Park). Understand now?
Since you and Ridgewood Mom seem to think CEOs should only make x more than their employees, the minimum wage should be raised and that discussing fairness has a place in an economic discussion, I brought up the point that he probably "already ha[s] more then they will ever need" -- a term coined by your cohort RM.
That all said, I would bet that on a percentage basis, I give a lot more of my $$ to charity than he does, but no doubt he gives more dollars annually than me overall. My true working class networth is considerably lower than 200 million.
FTR - I don't like his music or his persona, but I don't begrudge him making a successful product and making a ton of money off of it. I just find it absolutely ridiculous that it's OK for him to have lots of money but not a CEO.

Let me get this straight. All those who say they are going to toss their Springsteen albums are doing so because he is excercising his right to free speech - something so-called "conservatives" claim to cherish above all else? To what end? Will you be tossing your Clint Eastwood DVD's as well? I fail to see the difference. Why is it ok for a one celebrity to endorse a candidate, but not another? As for XJS, do your homework. Love him or hate him, Springsteen has donated more of his time and money to the "working class" than almost any celebrity on the planet. He earns a living selling music. Last time I checked that is what most of us refer to as capitalism. ARe you suggesting he give his albums away for free? What he does with his free time has nothing to do with what he does for a living, does it? Showing up at an Obama rally is Springsteen's version of XJS putting a "Romney/Ryan" sign on his lawn. The distinction being that Springsteen puts his money where is mouth is, as opposed to spewing incoherent drivel on a blog.

1. I'm not a Ryan/Romney fan.
2. I never liked Springsteen, so I've never bought an album. His music never appealed to me. Madonna is another one that spews her politics at concerts. I don't pay to see her either. I think Eastwood is an old coot, and I laughed with him when he said what he said about his performance at the GOP convention.
3. I advocate a free market and capitalism. See my 1:30pm post. I think saying that people have to pay their "Fair Share" is as ludicrous as saying that someone should do their trade for free. I'm glad that you think the latter is silly, hopefully you think the former is too. Bellair doesn't.
4. I wouldn't put a political sign on my lawn. I have class.
5. My money is definitely where my mouth is.
6. While most of you republicans and democrats fight over the same crumbs from the same table, I'll be voting for Gary Johnson. Until we have real tax reform and real gov't spending accountability, we're never going to get out of the mess we're in. Reps and Dems aren't even trying to fix this mess.

Stacy, have you ever read the words to Bruce Springsteen's song Nebraska?
Springsteen taunts the parents of murdered children when he wrote the following.
"Sheriff when the man pulls that switch sir and snaps my poor neck back
You make sure my pretty baby is sittin right there on my lap"
The entire song is insensitive to the families of murdered children, Bruce Springseen is a political moron. The entire song is an offense.
Bruce Springsteen Nebraska Lyrics
I saw her standin on her front lawn just twirlin her baton
Me and her went for a ride sir and ten innocent people died
From the town of Lincoln Nebraska with a sawed-off .410 on my lap
Through to the badlands of Wyoming I killed everything in my path
I can't say that I'm sorry for the things that we done
At least for a little while sir me and her we had us some fun
The jury brought in a guilty verdict and the judge he sentenced me to death
Midnight in a prison storeroom with leather straps across my chest
Sheriff when the man pulls that switch sir and snaps my poor neck back
You make sure my pretty baby is sittin right there on my lap
They declared me unfit to live said into that great void my should
Be hurled
They wanted to know why I did what I did
Well sir I guess there's just a meanness in this world

Tom, do you even know what the song Nebraska is about??? It's about the 1958 killing spree of Charles Starkweather and his girlfriend, which was already covered in detail by the 1973 film Badlands, which starred Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek. In fact, his viewing of the film is what inspired him to write the song. He is not taunting parents of murdered children!

Hookerman, doesn't matter what the movie was about. Springsteen didn't have to characterize the execution of Starkweather with the little girl sitting on his lap.
These lyrics are absolutely sickening. No parent should be taunted in this way.

JP cut it out, Richard Starkweather was one of the most heinous serial murders of the twentieth century. There was need for Springsteen to glorify him. Among his victims was a two year child and two teenage girls. Bruce Springsteen's memorial to Starweather's killing spree is macabre.Springsteen could have written about a lot of other subjects intsead of taunting the victim's families with this song. Insensitivity to the families and political activism seem to be commonplace in Sprigsteen's pyscho-bable writings and droning quavers. It's time for Americans to grow up and Springsteen to go the way of Victrola. BTW, Starkweather's girl friend did not get the death penalty.

Bruce Springsteen pays over $138,000 a year in taxes for his three-acre home in Colts Neck, New Jersey. He owns another 200 adjoining acres. But because he has a part-time farmer come and grow a few tomatoes (organic, of course) and has horses, his tax bill on the remaining 200 acres is just $4,639 bucks. Do the math. By being a fake farmer, the working-class zero Springsteen is making a mint by robbing New Jersey of the antipoverty program funds he says they desperately need.
Now, no conservative begrudges anyone—not even a die-hard Obama Zombie like Bruce Springsteen—from lowering their tax burden by taking full advantage of every tax break available to them. That’s legal and fine. But for a guy who makes hundreds of millions pretending to be a guardian of the working class, and who vocally supports Obama’s attempts to tax the rich at higher rates, to then turn around and utilize obscure tax loopholes to pocket hundreds of thousands of dollars that would otherwise go to his beloved social programs . . . well, that’s just flat-out Hollywood hypocrisy.
