Testone Wasn't 'Comfortable' With Song Change on 'American Idol'

Judges give Kinnelon native negative critique.

The judges' critique of performance on Wednesday night's episode of "American Idol" were not reflective of their comments on her performance last week, when Jennifer Lopez said she may be the best singer in the FOX hit television singing competition.

According to Zap2It, Testone was not comfortable with the song producers switched her to, "I'm Your Baby Tonight," which caused her performance feedback to be negative, she felt.

"You pick one song that you know you can do and then they suggest another one and then whatever they suggested, it's always negative feedback every time," she told Zap2It. "So it's like 'Oh, maybe I should've done the one I was comfortable with.' But I really liked doing that song. I thought I did a pretty good job with it, but definitely it could've been better. It could've been more in the pocket."

Testone was originally planning to sing "Greatest Love of All" on the show as the female contestants all paid tribute to the late Whitney Houston while the male contestants sang Stevie Wonder songs. But after meeting with guest mentor Mary J. Blige and Jimmy Iovine, Testone was encouraged to sing "I'm Your Baby Tonight."

When host Ryan Seacrest talked to Testone after the judges' critique, she told him that she was unfamiliar with "I'm Your Baby Tonight" and that while she might have heard it once or twice as a kid, she only found out she was singing the song a few days prior.

During Thursday night's episode it will be revealed whether Testone was voted in to the next level by viewers. American Idol is on FOX at 8 p.m.
