Bloomingdale residents will be able to trick-or-treat Saturday after the borough established that to be the new day for Halloween festivities.

Trick-or-treating was canceled Wednesday because several trees, poles and wires were still on the ground following Tropical Storm Sandy.

Bloomingdale police Chief Joe Borell said he had driven around and assessed the borough Thursday and deemed it safe enough for trick-or-treating on Saturday. He also said the Nightmare on Bailey Ave. event would be held.

According to Bloomingdale Councilman Ray Yazdi, an organizer of the event, the haunted house will open on Bailey Avenue between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. for all seniors and small children who want to walk through without scary characters. The haunted house will reopen at 6:30 p.m. "to all brave souls."

There will also be a flashlight egg haunt at 7 p.m. at 42 Bailey Ave.

The Borough of Kinnelon will be having trick-or-treating on Monday night, as recommended by Gov. Chris Christie's order.
