Conturso's Serves Up a Feast for All Occasions

Conturso's Market, a restaurant and catering operation on Main Road in Montville for three years, is this week's pick for Bites Nearby.

Conturso's Market & Fine Catering feeds its customers in a variety of ways.

It home delivers Thanksgiving dinners, caters corporate meetings with zucchini bruschetta and other dishes, sells bagged, prepared family meals to-go and makes pizzas and sandwiches for people to enjoy at the tables inside.

Owner John Conturso, who received his classic chef training at Culinary Institute of America, said the 3-year-old business on Main Road in Montville Township is about evenly split between catering and retail.

Each week, Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

Conturso said the chicken Italiano sandwich ($6.95) is the most popular, so I gave it a try. The bread and marinated grilled chicken combined to make a hearty and satisfying lunch. The flavors from the fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers, balsamic vinegar and olive oil were great. I actually knew what I was eating, which, now that I think about it, probably doesn't happen nearly as often as it should.

Sure enough, a customer who stopped in after me ordered the same sandwich, while another opted for Nancy's Favorite Eggplant sandwich. (Nancy Conturso is John's wife. She previously told us about a trip their family won this summer to tour Iowa farms.)

The market is open from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, and from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday is catering only.
