Movies Playing in the Tri-Boro This Weekend

Offerings include the long-awaited Baz Luhrmann treatment of the classic "The Great Gatsby," starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan as Jay and Daisy.

Looking for something to do this weekend? A huge film opens this week, as Aussie director Baz Luhrmann ("Romeo + Juliet," "Moulin Rouge") brings his version of the F. Scott Fitzgerald heavyweight "The Great Gatsby" to the big screen, fueled by a Jay-Z curated score. (We get the idea of a mainstream, hip-hop soundtrack; do check out the remake of Mrs. Carter's "Crazy in Love." The reason for a 3D version escapes us, though; if you see that one, please tell us if the effect adds anything to the roaring '20s tale of excess and crushed dreams.) Returning this week: "Iron Man 3," last week's box-office champ, which promises to make ticket-sales prognostication most interesting. Clearview Cinemas' Kinnelon 3 and Kinnelon 8 are where you'll find …

5 Cars a Mother Would Love

With Mom's big day this weekend, we look at family-style sedans and minivans for sale in Morris County.

Mother's Day is Sunday, and so our thoughts are filled with maternal memories. Moms do it all—bringing home the bacon, frying it in the proverbial pan, cleaning the house, schlepping the kids. She deserves a nice ride, don't you think? Now, many of us can't afford to get our female parent an elegant and reliable sedan or SUV that boasts subtle style yet holds her offspring and their equally rambunctious friends and their scads of junk, but it's nice to ponder. And for those who can produce the necessary scratch, think about what memorable Mama has done for you and check out these babies. This week's installment of 5 Cars is devoted to cars we imagine our own wonderful mother would love. We're not mentioning this to her, however, because we…

JCP&L Donates $5K to Local Food Pantry

The employees also donated 1,000 pounds of food to the Interfaith Food Pantry.

During tough economic times, those that are down on their luck often times find it hard to get food on the table. That's where the Interfaith Food Pantry comes in. The Interfaith Food Pantry is a non-denominational non-profit organization that provides food and groceries to Morris County families in need. Recently, Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) helped support the pantry with a $5,000 donation. Last year, the pantry fell on hard times because a 13 percent increase from May through July in demand for food staples had nearly stripped the pantry of supplies. But local companies are stepping up to help out.  JCP&L employees held bake sales and luncheons, collected food items and donated cash during the recently completed 2013 "Harvest …

Kinnelon 3 Cinemas Set to Close

Bow Tie Cinemas, the company purchasing 41 Clearview Cinemas locations, won't be acquiring the Kinnelon 3 theater.

Hard on the heels of news that Cablevision, which owns movie chain Clearview Cinemas, is selling 41 of its theaters in the tri-state region, including 21 in New Jersey, to Connecticut-based Bow Tie Cinemas comes word that the Kinnelon 3 Cinema will shut its doors for good sometime in the near future. Bow Tie says the decision belongs to the Kinnelon 3's landlord, which decided to close the movie house when its lease expires. The theater, also known as the Kinnelon Arts Centre, is located at 1451 Route 23. Calls to the theater and to Clearview Cinemas management regarding the reason for and projected date of the closing were not returned by press time. Clearview's Kinnelon 8, at 25 Kinnelon Road, will join the Bow Tie roster and moviegoers …

Hospital scored as having higher number of patients develop blood clots than average scored facility, but fewer falls and traumas.

When ranked along with more than 2,000 general hospitals in the country, Morristown Medical Center received a "C" grade on a newly released report card from Hospital Safety Score. BTW, I really think it is terrible how these hospitals that were founded decades ago as a memorial tribute to people are now dropping the word "memorial" from their names. Chilton was founded by a Pompton Plains doctor because the nearest hospitals were in Paterson and Passaic -- and it was named in honor of the doctor's son who was shot down over Europe with the US Army Air Corps.   more ›

Spotlight on the Tri-Boro

Architekt Keeps the Music Flowing in Butler

Nearly a speakeasy, musical one-stop shop is definitely a business on the rise

Rock and roll dreams come alive at Butler's Architekt. The hyphenate entertainment emporium runs the gamut: It's a musical performance venue, recording studio, rehearsal space and music school. The place has to be seen to be believed. It boasts a sleek decor and state of the art acoustics and equipment. Among the top-notch items used in the recording studio is a Solid State Logic 9080J console. "This console, not like another version of it, this console was used by Paul McCartney, Alicia Keyes, Foo Fighters and Tupac," said co-owner George Roskos, who founded Archtekt in 2010 with fellow Seton Hall University alum Kurt Wubbenhorst.  Rokos acknowledged that he and his parnter were greenhorns, but they had brains, an unusually good business …
