While thunder and lightning raged outside the Lodge at Schooley’s Mountain County Park Thursday, inside the adjacent lodge building sparks flew between Republican candidates for two top Morris County elected offices. Tuesday is the last day to register to vote in the June 4 primary election, where Tri-Boro municipal council races are the only local contests. The primary election race for two available Bloomingdale Council seats will be uncontested in June. The action will come for the November general election, when Democrats Dawn Hudson and Anthony Costa take on Republican incumbent Linda Shortman and her running mate, newcomer Albert Miller for two three-year seats. Morris County Freeholder Ann Grossi is building support for her bid for a new job.
Morris County Freeholder Ann Grossi, running in the June 4 Republican primary to replace outgoing county Clerk Joan Bramhall, has something to celebrate. Her campaign has announced that the Parsippany resident has won the public support of a long list of New Jersey mayors. The list includes the names of 24 town leaders. An open letter sent to Morris County Republicans by an entity called Mayors for Ann Grossi extols the candidate's virtues. "As Republican elected officials and community leaders we can think of no one more qualified and capable of continuing the integrity and efficient management of the clerk’s office than Freeholder Ann Grossi," the document states. Parsippany's James Vigilante again accuses fellow township resident Ann Grossi of publicly disrespecting his Air Force service.
Morris County Clerk Republican Party candidate James Vigilante says his U.S. Air Force service was attacked again by fellow candidate Ann Grossi. Vigilante, a nine-time decorated Air Force veteran and current Air Force reservist from Parsippany, appeared at a candidates' debate held at the Montville Senior House late last week. He claimed Grossi’s campaign manager, Steve Roman, sat among the audience and fired questions at Vigilante regarding his military service. According to the candidate, Roman asked Vigilante about the $125 per day he earns as a reservist first sergeant and then criticized him for accepting pay from the military while also trying to run for a government position. New Jersey law allows contributors who donate less than $300 to remain anonymous.
A published report Sunday revealed New Jersey’s current campaign donation system needs to be revised after it was disclosed politicians can receive more money while still keeping the names of their donors secret — as long as the contributions are less than $300. The NJ.com report said most states allow campaigns to keep only those donors who give $100, $50 or less private, but Garden State politicians don’t have to report any information about people who contribute less than $300. The report said because of the state’s secretive laws, candidates were able to hide about $12 million out of the $100 million donated. The state’s rule allowing campaigns to keep these donors anonymous could undergo a re-evaluation after one of the state’s most …

Three Republicans will vie for two Kinnelon Council seats that will be open this November during the June 4 primary. Incumbents Stephen Cobell and Jim Freda both filed nominating petitions by the 4 p.m. Monday deadline, according to Acting Borough Clerk Karen Iuele. Additionally, Robert W. While the June primary election for the Butler Council's two open seats will not be contested, November's general election will be as three candidates indicated Monday their intentions to run. The seats that will be open are those of Republican incumbents Stephen Regis and Edwin Vath. Borough Clerk Mary O'Keefe said Monday that both incumbents filed petitions indicating their intentions to seek re-election. Additionally, Democrat Linda Gilvey filed nominating petitions with the Butler Borough Clerk's office by the 4 p.m. deadline on Monday. Primary elections will be held on June 4.

On the heels of the school shooting in Newtown, Conn., school districts across the country have evaluated their safety policies and procedures. As a result, some districts in New Jersey, including in Parsippany, are discussing moving polling places out of the schools to further promote school safety. Bloomingdale has a single polling place inside a school, with one district voting inside the Samuel R. Donald School. All other polling locations, in Bloomingdale, Kinnelon and Butler, are outside schools but in firehouses, municipal buildings and libraries. Tell us: What do you think? Candidate James Vigilante, a Parsippany resident and a U.S. Air Force reservist, says his opponent, Freeholder Ann Grossi, who's also from the township, is accusing him of lying about his military record.
