Northern New Jersey residents will put their feet forward for healthy babies on Sunday May 1, 2011 at Morris County’s March for Babies, to be held at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ.  Each year in the garden state, 14,040 babies are born prematurely and 1 in 33 in the United States are born with a serious birth defect. Working to help change this is Jacqueline Laurita, Bravo TV Real Housewife of New Jersey and Honorary Chair for Morris County’s March for Babies.

March for Babies is held in 900 communities across the United States and involves more than 7 million people each year.  Morris County’s March for Babies expects to raise $300,000 with the help of more than 1,000 participants and major corporate sponsors, including Watson Pharmaceuticals, Investors Savings Bank, and BLK Water.   Funds raised in March for Babies will help benefit programs, such as Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait, a community outreach program aimed to reduce elective c-sections before 39 weeks gestation for adequate brain, heart and lung development.

“The March of Dimes is especially close to my heart because I experienced  difficult pregnancies and five miscarriages.  I understand the heartache that moms and families go through when the outcome of having a baby is not what they expected,” said 2011 March for Babies Honorary Chair, Jacqueline Laurita.   “Although the March of Dimes has made tremendous strides, there  is still work that needs to be done so that problems that threaten the health of babies become a thing of the past,” added Chairman Dr. LeRoy Seitz, Parsippany-Troy Hills Superintendent of Schools.

The Farleigh Dickinson University Florham Campus is made up of 178 acres and part of Florham, the former country estate of early 20th century socialites Florence Vanderbilt and Hamilton Twombly ("Florham" comes from their combined first names).

The college at Florham is primarily a residential campus, supported by a strong student life program.

The school was founded in 1942 by Dr. Peter Sammartino and his wife and has since become the largest private university in New Jersey.

Fairleigh Dickinson offers over 100 degree programs.

It became the first American university to own a campus in England when it acquired Wexton College from Trinity College, part of Oxford University, in 1965.

The school has a total of four campuses including one in England and another in Vancouver, Canada.
