5 Things: Keep Kids Indoors on 'Goosey Night'

Gear up for Halloween on Tri-Boro Patch.

With all this and Halloween, you may have forgotten another "holiday," if you will, and one that pre-teens and older look forward to each year.

In the tri-boro, we call it "Goosey Night" while other towns call it "Mischief Night" and if you've never understood what it meant, take a drive around Monday morning (historically, it occurs the night before Halloween).

Essentially it's a night of mischief where kids throw toilet paper into trees, spray shaving cream on cars and more. But more than harmless pranks, sometimes the result is real damage and police are encouraging parents to keep their teens indoors.

We'll be bringing you a story about how the police are dealing with this year's event, but here are all five things you should know today:

  1. You Need to Know Where to Read About "Goosey Night": We'll have an article for you Sunday morning so you can read about how police have been preparing for "Goosey Night" and what previous years' mischief has been like.
  2. You Need to Know Halloween is Coming: This is the last weekend before Halloween and may be the last opportunity to get a costume. Kinnelon has a in the Meadtown Shopping Center filled with costumes and Halloween decorations.
  3. You Need to Know "Nightmare on Bailey Avenue" Will Not Be Happening This Year: Just in case you live in and were unaware that the event is not being held this year, you can and watch a video from 2010's event.
  4. You Need to Know We'll Be at Your Children's School Parades: We'll be snapping photos all day on Monday from the cute school parades to trick-or-treaters and more.
  5. You Need to Know I Need Help Figuring Out a Costume: It would be absolutely no fun if I photographed kids and adults in costumes all day and did not dress up myself. Many of you remember me in March, proving that I love costumes even when it is not Halloween. Help! What should I dress up as for Halloween? Leave a suggestion in the comments then check back Monday as I'll post a photo of which I choose.
