Bloomingdale Girl a Finalist in Honors Program

Erin Lime chosen from entrants in Sussex and Passaic counties for the next round of competition.

Erin Lime of Bloomingdale has been named as a finalist in The Wallenberg Honors Program, a program which recognizes New Jersey students who make a difference in their communities.

According to Principal Frank Verducci of Walter T. Bergen Middle School, the Wallenberg Honors Proram honors those students in New Jersey who best show "moral courage and/or personal responsibility in their school or community, demonstrate the 'Power of One' or has performed an act or actions that demonstrates a commitment to the principles of courage and compassion."

The program is named after Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat who lived in Hungary during World War II. Wallenberg issued protective passports to thousands of Jews, saving them from the concentration camps during the war. During the seige of Budapest he was imprisoned by the Soviets and later reported as having died while in KGB custody in Moscow.

Erin, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Lime of Bloomingdale, will represent Passaic and Sussex counties in the final round of competition.

Verducci nominated Erin for the award because of her work at a local animal shelter. "Her deep love of animals [is] the driving force behind her determination to make a difference in a dog’s life,” Verducci said. Erin also volunteers at local events sponsored by the Bloomingdale Fire Department.

In Verducci's words, Erin "reflects the spirit of the Wallenberg Foundation’s 'Power of One' from not only a human perspective but from a humane standpoint as well."

Erin will travel to Parsippany Hills High School on May 15 with the other finalists from around New Jersey. The Honoree and Distinguished Honoree will be announced at that time.

Tri-Boro Patch joins with Verducci in wishing Erin the best of luck as a finalist for this program!
