Butler Library Needs Help Building LEGO Program

LEGO and LEGO DUPLO donations needed.

Give a few red, yellow and blue LEGO blocks to a child and within a few hours, you'll have a structure created entirely from their imagination.

The is hoping to inspire young LEGO architects with a program that would allow the children to build LEGO and LEGO DUPLO structures and have them displayed on the shelves of the children's library. Further, Children's Librarian Arlene Walk is hoping to create a new program where she would give the kids a theme each month and they would construct related objects out of the blocks.

Walk said the library has been trying to get the program off the ground since the summer, but without donations of LEGO and LEGO DUPLO blocks, the program cannot be launched.

"We've had a number of patrons who have donated some of the LEGOS," Walk said, emphasizing that many more are needed before the program can begin.

Walk said the LEGO DUPLO blocks are larger and are mainly used for the younger kids.

"They don't quite have the dexterity yet to use the LEGO blocks," she said.

The library is asking for donations of both kinds of blocks in a variety of colors. Those interested in donating LEGO or LEGO DUPLO blocks can bring them to the Butler Public Library, One Ace Road.
