A charity chili and macaroni and cheese cook off that was to be held this weekend has been cancelled.

The Women of Smoke Rise had to cancel the event because they could not get the proper permission from the Board of Health.

The non-profit organization was to use proceeds gathered from the event to help fund scholarships for graduating seniors at Kinnelon High School. The group awards thousands of dollars in scholarships annually.

Vice president Sunita Narma said the group would try and reschedule the event for a future date.

How low can you go? The HD won't give a permit? We have pancake breakfasts, beefsteak dinners etc, but something that benefits our kids? Something wrong here. Was the permit not asked for in time or is this some sort of payback for some imagined fauz pas? We need a chiligate, and a special prosecutor if problems are found!

LOL @ Chilligate . This was the first time we were trying to host such an event, no worries we will regroup and be back with a plan and permit that works for all. Just wasn't possible to change gears in the short amount of time between discovering the problem and implementing a solution. Thank you to everyone who signed up to cook, judge and taste !
