Fish Bite at Bogue Pond During Annual Contest

Glenwild Garden Center celebrated 85-year milestone by planting tree.

Despite overcast skies, families with fishing gear peppered the perimeter of Bogue Pond Saturday morning for Bloomingdale's 13th Annual Trout Fishing contest.

Mayor Jon Dunleavy announced the start at 10 a.m. Within minutes, kids were hooking trout, bass and sunnies and bringing them up for prizes.

Bloomingdale's Municipal Alliance was on hand to promote "Operation Take Back," a collection of unused, unwanted medication by local police departments, on April 27. The Alliance was selling goldfish in small tanks that kids decorated as a craft.

The sun broke through in time for a special dedication ceremony by the MacKenn family, owners of Glenwild Garden Center, one of Bloomingdale's oldest businesses. The MacKenns planted a Red Sunset Maple tree by the playground to thank the community for their support throughout their 85-year history as a local business.
