Couple Found Dead in Kinnelon Home

Two people were found dead inside a Kinnelon home in June. Joey Jones, 63, was killed by a gunshot wound and that John Jones, 74, died via suicide, also by gunshot wound, an autopsy revealed. Mayor Robert Collins said the incident “affected the community in a very big way.”

Butler Woman’s Body Found Floating in River

The body of Butler resident Zeliha Akcay, 64, was found floating in the Pequannock River in Bloomingdale in July, police said. The cause of death was ruled a suicide, police said.

Man Dies After Falling in Iced-Over Lake Iosco

Frank Ferrell, 52, died after he fell through the ice of Lake Iosco in Bloomingdale in February. Ferrell was ice fishing on the lake and screamed for help for 10 minutes, police said.

Newtown Shooting Inspires Butler Woman to Help

Sarah Cox, a Butler substitute teacher, launched the Dreams for Disney Facebook page, to help the children of Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Ct. go on trips to Walk Disney World.

"I thought, 'Maybe, if somehow it gets viral, maybe Disney will see it and make it happen for these children since they've gone through so much,'" Cox said.

Dog Leads Police to Kinnelon Man’s Body

The body of Bjoern Waalberg, 51, was found in the woods of the Apshawa Preserve in February, after a Labrador retriever that was with Waalberg led police to the body.
