Rita's Ice Opens For the Season

Italian ice shop opened for the season on Tuesday.

, in , has been a popular Spring spot on Main Street since 2007. Owner Kristi Anderson has opened the seasonal shop this week to what she hopes is a profitable 2011.

Anderson and her husband chose to open the Rita's Ice franchise store because she said they saw the need in the community. Before the building, which houses her shop, was even built, Anderson said she saw a picture on a fence of what the place was going to look like when completed. "I was the first business in the new building before any other business, town houses or condos," she said. "There was nothing here but me."

Anderson said that what is great about her shop is that even in hard times, her desserts are affordable. "Even with the economic hard times, people still come to my shop," she said. "Families may not go on vacation or don't go out much but they can still come here and only spend $20, or less depending on what you get."
