Benanti's 'Sound of Music' Performance Praised

Kinnelon's native 'brought a level of complexity' to Elsa Schrader.

NBC’s live broadcast of “The Sound of Music” appeared to capture the feeling of the original 1965 movie, critics said. 

Kinnelon’s Laura Benanti played Elsa Schrader, Captain von Trapp’s fiancée.

Time magazine’s Charlotte Alter said Benanti “brought a level of complexity to the Baroness that I’d never seen before.”

Benanti sang “No Way to Stop It” and “How Can Love Survive?”; those songs were cut from the 1965 movie.

“Her songs were by far the best in the show,” Alter wrote.
