Butler Resident Safe on 'So You Think You Can Dance'

Judges give Amelia Lowe mixed reviews for her jazz performance.

teen Amelia Lowe's performance on this week's "So You Think You Can Dance" did not seem to impress all three judges. Still, Lowe is safe from elimination for at least another two weeks as the show takes a hiatus for the London 2012 Summer Olympics.

Lowe and her partner, Will Thomas, danced to a jazz number, "You!" by The Creatures on Wednesday night's episode of the dancing competition show. The dancers wore black and white costumes resembling men's suits.

"I felt as though it was black and white and it didn't really connect and I didn't feel as though you connected," Nigel Lythgoe, a judge and producer of the show, told Lowe and her partner.

Eighteen-year-old Lowe, who lives at home with her parents in Butler, first learned to dance at the on Carey Avenue. in Pompton Lakes when she was younger and attended high school at the Morris County School of Technology, where her studies focused on dancing and theatre.

Mary Murphy, another judge on the show, said she did not think this week's performance was bad, but it did not meet the standards of previous performances.

"Was it as strong as the numbers you did so far this season? No, I don't think it was, but it's still not bad," she said.

But Murphy also said she enjoys watching Lowe perform.

"Amelia, wow, you're just phenomenal to watch. It's so much fun," she said.

Guest judge Christina Applegate had a more positive review of the performance. Applegate called the duo the "dream team" and said she has watched the dancers adapt to different styles of dance with ease on the show.

"Your chemistry is so spot on, so good," she said.

"So You Think You Can Dance" airs on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on FOX.
