A Delicious Doughy Crust at Il Positano's

Il Positano's was this week's stop on our 'Best Pizza of the Tri-boro Tour.'

Those who have lived in the area for many years remember the space that is now occupied by as the former Pizza King, serving traditional pizzeria foods as well as Italian favorites. Once Il Positano's moved in, they took it to another level, offering with a pizza shop section as well as a fine dining room.

Il Positano's also offers traditional Italian cuisine made from authentic family recipes. The restaurant offers pasta dishes, huge salads and a dessert platter that will make you say "OMG!" But that's not all Il Positano's serves.

Carrying on traditions and flavors of the recipes of their family (the restaurant is owned by four brothers and their sister) in each and every pie, Il Positano's makes pizza as well. Benne Ciro, one of the owners, said, "Our dough is made with 100 percent extra virgin olive oil and I use imported tomatoes."

Ciro said that the most popular pizza at Il Positano's is their thin crust special, which has homemade fresh mozzarella and sauce and Romano cheese.

We stopped by the restaurant Wednesday and ordered a large cheese pie. Here's what we thought:

Editor's Review

The first thing I noticed about this pizza when it touched my tongue was the crust. Usually, I notice the sauce first, since it is my favorite part, but the crust on this pizza was unlike anything I've ever had on a pizza. It was doughy and flavorful, although I would have liked to see it a little crispier. Overall, I enjoyed the pizza.

Cheese: There was a lot of cheese on this pizza-I'd say more than on your average slice of pizza. I would have liked to see a little less.

Sauce: I would have liked to see a little more, but that's really just personal preference. The flavor of the sauce was good (a little less sweet and a little more sour) and I liked how there was enough sauce to at least taste it under the cheese.

Crust: The best part! The crust was very unique and tasty.

Overall rating: 4 out of 5

The crust is like nothing I've ever tasted!

Cheese: The first slice I had did have a lot of cheese. The oil is inevitable.

Sauce: I thought the sauce was delicious. You can tell it was homemade.

Crust: It was very different from anything I've ever tasted. I really enjoyed the dough. The dough was soft, which I really liked.

The sauce was very good. It was very greasy, it was very doughy. I wish it was a little crispier.

Cheese: A little greasy. They use a lot of cheese, which is a good thing. If it was cooked a little more, it would have been perfect.

Sauce: Sauce was really good, homemade.

Crust: It was probably the best part of the pizza on the end, but the crust was doughy.

This is actually one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants and this is the first time I've had their pizza.

Cheese: I thought the flavor was good. There was a good amount.

Sauce: Very good flavor

Crust: I prefer a crispier crust.

Cheese: I thought there was too much of it.

Sauce: It was good, I liked it.

Crust: I like crispier crust. I thought it was too doughy, but I thought the flavor was good.
