A Thick Sandwich Well Worth the Price at Union Ave. Deli

Union Ave. Delicatessen caters to a busy breakfast and lunch crowd seven days a week.

As I pulled into the packed parking lot of the on a Saturday afternoon, I knew there must be some good food inside by the amount of traffic coming in and out. This was my first time at the deli and I was excited to sink my teeth into a good old sandwich.

Walking into the deli, there is an eating area off to the right that was a. The dining area has four tables and serves breakfast and lunch. The staff helped me make a decision on which sandwich to order.

Looking at the deli case, I noticed all Boar’s Head products and ordered a turkey, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion sandwich with oil and vinegar on a long roll. My guest ordered the “Sloppy Joe,” which had turkey, roast beef, cole slaw, Swiss cheese, and Thousand Island dressing on marble Rye bread. My guest also had ordered the tortellini salad.

The sandwiches were stacked high with meat, which is rare to find these days. The produce was fresh and the sandwich was tasty! You can taste the difference in a fresh sandwich vs. a non-fresh sandwich. I had to try the tortellini salad, which was also delicious and was a nice add-on to the sandwich.

While I sat there enjoying my sandwich and watching the people pile in, place their orders, and be on their way. I overheard one customer say to the owner, “You guys really have the best sandwiches in town.” Others chimed in and agreed.

The owner, Bob, has been in Bloomingdale for seven years now. “You get what you pay for,” he said. Other places that cut back on the price of their sandwiches also cut back in other ways leaving you with less of a sandwich. That is certainly not the case here. That being said, I felt the sandwiches were definitely worth the cost and my guest and I each had a sandwich, split the tortellini salad, and each had a drink for $20 total, which I consider to be an affordable price.
