Main Street sweet shop Candy Shack was officially welcomed to Bloomingdale Monday when Mayor Jonathan Dunleavy and Bloomingdale Council Members John D'Amato and Linda Shortman cut a large red ribbon in front of the business.
Owner Tracy Kaushal greeted the officials, who were joined by DPW Superintendent Al Gallagher, and celebrated more than a month in business in the borough.
Candy Shack, which held its grand opening Oct. 21, sells candies, cookies and other sweets, as well as party supplies, stuffed animals and balloons.
With the store's opening happening just one week before Superstorm Sandy hit, Kaushal said the business was "hit hard."
"Everyone was so concerned with the storm," she said.
But the store's specialty is in offering customers seasonal items around holidays and with the winter holidays on their way (and Hanukkah already here), Kaushal said she has seen some business pick up. Kaushal said she is always looking for more suggestions from customers on what sweets to sell and often reaches out through the business' Facebook page.
