Dessert Worth the Wait With Danny's Fried Oreos

Danny's Pizza offers carnival-style dessert along with delicious sandwiches and slices.

Having eaten at Danny's Pizza several times, I can honestly say I have never been disappointed. The night I went to Danny's to prepare this review was no exception—especially after dessert.

My guest and I went to on a weeknight and several families sat in the dining section of the restaurant around us. We both decided not to order pizza this time and instead went with sandwiches. My guest had the California Cheese Steak ($7) and I went with the classic Turkey and Cheese Sub ($6).

The bread was fresh and I enjoyed the red onions, which seemed a little unique to this type of sandwich to me but definitely added a great flavor to the meal. I personally am very particular with my cheese and prefer a nice deli cut yellow American cheese, so the taste of processed cheese did not flatter the sandwich in my opinion. I ended up taking it off. It had a bit of a creamier texture than what I prefer.

My guest enjoyed the California Cheese Steak and if you have never tried one of these, you have to get it here. I once knocked the idea of the California Cheese Steak but after trying it have become a fan. The sandwich comes with lettuce, tomato, onions and mayonnaise.

The bread was toasted perfectly. I had to take a bite of my guest's dinner to try Danny’s version and I did get a bit jealous that I did not choose this for my dinner, even though my sandwich was delicious.

The restaurant was clean and the food was served quickly.

Although their menu is extensive, they offer the classics New Jerseyians have come to expect from Italian restaurants. Their menu has chicken, veal, seafood and pasta, in addition to their pizzeria items, like specialty pies, wraps, subs and a number of appetizers.

This year, Danny’s also started carrying a special dessert that is known and loved by many carnival-goers: fried Oreos. So far, the Oreos are a big hit with the restaurant, according to employees, and are served piping hot, six for $4. If you like the chocolatey cookie and funnel cakes or Zeppolis, these are a must-try. This was the dessert choice of my guest and and I and we were certainly not disappointed.

In terms of the pizza, Manager Mike Damato said, “The most popular slices are the Buffalo, Barbeque, Chicken Parmigiano and, of course, the plain slice. They are ordered the most. As for the dinner, the Chicken Parmigiano is the most ordered entrée.”

The restaurant offers free delivery to Bloomingdale, Butler, Riverdale, Kinnelon, Haskell, Pompton Plains, Pompton Lakes and sections of West Milford. They also offer dine in, take out, delivery and catering.

Lunch specials are served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include salad, garlic bread and a choice of pasta with your entrée.

Hours of operation are Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. They are closed on Monday.
