German Lagers Brewed in the Backyard of Butler

You don't have to go to Germany to get a good beer.

Beer enthusiasts need not go out of the country to get a quality German beer. German and Weizen beers are being brewed daily at High Point Brewing Company, in Butler. With just a small sign hanging in an industrial complex in the borough, it's not hard to miss High Point, which is why it is this week's pick for Bites Nearby.

Each week, Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

- After working as a brewer in southern Germany, High Point Founder Greg Zaccardi decided to open his own brewery in northern New Jersey in 1994. Zaccardi gives tours of his brewery the second Saturday of every month, with the exception of January and February, and tells tourists that he prides himself on having the first exclusive wheat beer brewery in America. The ingredients in High Point's beers (wheat, barley and hops) are imported from Bavaria. Beers that are sold go under the name Ramstein and varieties include the Ramstein Blonde Classic, Platinum Blonde, Amber Lager and Golden Lager.

The brewery's next tour will be Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tourists who are 21 and older will be able to sample some of the beers for free.
