Kinnelon Mayor Gives Ferati's Pizza 4.7 Out of 5

We agree that Ferati's Pizza offers a delicious pie.

Only a year old, , on Boonton Avenue in Butler, across from , is one pizza place you should definitely try.

With a full dining area and options for takeout or delivery (to Kinnelon, Butler, Bloomingdale, Riverdale and parts of West Milford) Ferati's is ready and willing to create the perfect pizza for you and your family. Ferati's, like many pizza places, is a family-owned business. Al Ferati is the owner and his brother, Mike, works at the pizza restaurant as well.

Before opening the Butler location, Mike Ferati said his family operated a few pizza restaurants in Passaic and one in Totowa. Ferati's does not just offer pizza. The restaurant offers a full range of Italian meals, including Chicken Francese, Cavatelli Alla Nonna, Eggplant Rollatini and more.

So what sets this pizza restaurant apart from other restaurants? "We use the best ingredients," Ferati said. "We buy the best stuff."

Ferati's is currently open six days a week, but Ferati said they are planning to open on Sundays also when they revamp their menu in August. Now let's get to the pizza.

Editor's Review

Honestly, this was one of the best pizzas I've had in a long time. From the first bite, I knew that what is most special about this pizza is that there is nothing particularly special. And I mean this in a good way.

Basically, this pizza is honest and only what it should be: the perfect amount of sauce spread on top of a perfectly cooked crust with the perfect amount of cheese cooked just to the done-ness that I prefer.

I did not notice any unique qualities of the pizza, contrary to Ashley (see below), but I enjoyed it greatly. There was some pizza left over from our sit down meal with Kinnelon Mayor Bob Collins, so I was the lucky one who got to take some home. Several hours later, I was itching for another slice, and while I typically cannot stand cold pizza, eating Ferati's pizza cold was actually quite pleasant. I'll also say, though, that when the pizza arrived at the table it was piping hot, and Ferati brought it out with an array of spices, although I did not season the pizza as to distract myself from the taste. Here's the breakdown of what we all thought.

During this contest, we will never ask for a pizza to be cooked "a little well done." All we will order each week is a "large cheese pizza."

Cheese: I thought there was a perfect amount of cheese on the pizza and, more importantly to me, the pizza was cooked to perfection.

Sauce: The sauce was tangy, but not too sweet. When I was eating the pizza, I instantly thought of the pizza we ate last week, and the distinct sweetness of the sauce. I did wish this sauce was just a tad sweeter.

Crust: The crust was very nicely done and almost a little bit well done-which is exactly the way I like it.

Cheese: The cheese is just the right amount. You still have the flavor of the sauce coming through.

Sauce: I like the sauce. Actually, the sauce isn't too acidic. That's the problem with some pizzas.

Crust: I think the pizza's well cooked. The crust is thin and not soggy. I think it's an excellent pizza.

Cheese: The cheese is a little messy, a little slippery. But it is cooked well. Piping hot!

Sauce: I like the chunks of basil in the sauce. I think it's the perfect amount of sauce.

Crust: I love it! It has a different flavor than I've ever tasted. I like the bubbles. The crust is a little doughy in the middle, but has a nice crisp.
