Kinnelon Colts 6th Grade Boys Lacrosse Team Has Been Busy

Squad four games in nine days, including wins against Pequannock and Randolph.

The Kinnelon Colts sixth-grade boys lacrosse has been busy, handling four games in the last nine days. After beating the Vernon Vikings, the team had 20 days off. But since then they have been on a roll of game sending them all over northern New Jersey.

First, on April 19 they faced the Sparta Spartans in Sparta. Unfortunately though they had a tough time of it in Sparta. Sparta scored the first goal of the game at the end of the second quarter. However, they scored again early in the third quarter. The scored their third unanswered goal in the fourth quarter. Despite these scores, Kinnelon's goalies, Will Juhlin and Stephen Jacobus, fended off a number of shots on goal, keeping the game close for Kinnelon.

With 1:44 left in the game middy Chris Carvallo scored Kinnelon's first and only goal. Though they played well, this was a tough loss for Kinnelon.

The Colts next played Pequannock in Pequannock on April 23. The Colts were really on their game, beating Pequannock 11-2. The Colts played Pequannock again the next day, April 24, at home. The Colts were again at peak performance, beating Pequannock this time 10-0. Stephen Jacobus was in goal all game and came away with a perfect game.

The sixth-grade boys next played Randolph in Randolph on Thursday, April 26. This was a tough game for both teams. A minute into the game middy Joey Ballai scored the first goal of the game for Kinnelon. Randolph won the face off and moved down field. After a shot on goal, Randolph chased goalie Will Juhlin out of goal, but he was able to avoid their push, clearing the ball to mid-field. Kinnelon's defensemen, including Sean Spreen, Paul Dolan and Ryan Smith, helped keep Randolph away from the goal for most of he second quarter.

Kinnelon scored on a quick push to the Randolph goal. Four minutes later attackman Pat Shiel scored for Kinnelon. Randolph scored their first goal with 30 seconds left in the first quarter. However, with 10 second left in the half Randolph scored again, making the score 3-2.

Kinnelon started the second half a man down, but kept Randolph from scoring.   Kinnelon's Mark Shergalis scored within a minute of the third quarter. Randolph scored on goalie Stephen Jacobus with 20 seconds left in the quarter. They scored again on goalie Juhlin at the start of the fourth quarter, making the score 4-4.

However, Kinnelon went on a roll in the fourth quarter, scoring three goals in one minute. After five consecutive shots on goal, Randolph scored with 2:50 left in the game. But it wasn't enough to stop the Colts, who won the game 8-5. It was a good showing by both teams, but Kinnelon came away with a hard fought win.
