Have You Given Thanks Today?

Giving thanks to those first responders that give to you.

With the weather events over the last few days, I thought it was time to write about giving thanks. Thanks to all the first responders out there that service us every day.

Both my husband and I come from a family of firefighters and I truly believe that’s why both of us got involved in emergency services–my husband as a firefighter and me as a paramedic and on the local fire department auxiliary.

We started preparing for the storm many days ago. We’ve been through many floods before, but it’s been quite a while that we’ve been faced with a hurricane.  So, we, along with the town, police, OEM, and DPW, prepared for the worst.

My husband left here at 10 p.m. on Friday night and my children and I have barely seen him since. And I’m not the only one, folks.

I’ve continued to listen to the radio and the hundreds of emergency calls that have been received over the last few days which made me think about all the men and women that have put their lives on the line for us over the last few days–those men and women who put their lives on the line every day! We’re so lucky in Bloomingdale to have such dedicated people servicing our community. People who put their lives on hold for us to protect us, our families and our property. Those same men and women who at times leave their own families to help their neighbors. It says so much for the type of people that they are.

So all this said, have you thanked your local firefighter recently? How about the EMT who helped you or your family? The police officer who responded to your emergency? If you haven’t, then thank them today and every time you see one!
