Reassessing The Classic Resolution

People think the solution to their problem can be found in an infomercial, a gym membership, the newest supplement, the craziest workouts, or a personal trainer.

January is the time of year when people undergo what should have been done yesterday. Resolutions are made and most will be broken. Everyone knows they should eat healthy and exercise. This is exemplified in the fact that gym membership sales sky rocket in the month of January. The drop off rate in mid February is equally as steep as the original climb.

I can tell someone everything to do to lose 10, 20, 50-plus pounds, become more athletic, ease up joint pains, or just feel a whole lot better than they do right now and it won’t matter unless a person is willing to take care of the real problem.

People think the solution to their problem can be found in an infomercial, a gym membership, the newest supplement, the craziest workouts, or a personal trainer. Truthfully, none of these things matter unless the person realizes the solution to their problem isn’t found out there. Until they realize the problem is their mindset and habits the body of their dreams will remain a dream.

How to set yourself up for success? The most important key is getting a mentor and someone to be held accountable to. Find your most in shape friend and start mimicking what they do every day. One of the easiest and fastest ways to become healthy is to model after their habits. No, I’m not saying go out and run eight miles a day if that is what the person does, but pay particular attention to how they eat, how they plan, and modify their workout routines to your level of physical fitness. Living a healthy lifestyle needs to become your priority because it is certainly theirs.

Before you go out and spend a thousand dollars on a new treadmill, ab machine, or set of dumbbells, try modeling the habits of your healthy friends for a month. If you can’t do that, I just saved you from buying a really expensive coat rack. If you can, I promise you that you will become much happier in February than you are now. Never have I seen someone upset about improving their physical health.
