UPDATE: Butler to Light Up Park Next Friday

A list of nearby activities for you and your family.

It's beginning to look a lot like...well, you know.

And next weekend, it will really look like Christmas after the Borough of Butler lights up Butler Park during its annual celebration on Dec. 9. The annual tree and park lighting will be happening at 7 p.m.

Originally, the park lighting was scheduled for this Friday.

"It was originally scheduled for Dec. 2, however, due to the October storm's extended clean up efforts, the borough thought best to delay the December lighting until next week," said Capt. Ciro Chimento.

Have no fear. Here are a few things you can do with your family this weekend:

Bloomingdale Cornet Band Christmas Concert
Where/When: Saturday at 8 p.m. at First Reformed Church, 529 Newark Pompton Turnpike, Pompton Plains
Why Go: To hear Christmas classic songs and some new music from the Bloomingdale Cornet Band.
Cost: Free

Rock My World Geology Hike
Where/When: Sunday at 1 p.m. at Pyramid Mountain
Why Go: To learn about some of the oldest rocks in New Jersey while getting some exercise.
Cost: $1


Where/When: Saturday at 9 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Parsippany, 903 S. Beverwyck Rd., Parsippany.
Why Go: Because you want to protect your privacy. And, being ecologically responsible, it's important to you that 100 percent of your shredded paper gets recycled.
Cost: $6 per box of letter or legal size paper.


Where/When: Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m., Condit House, Route 46 & North Beverwyck Road, Parsippany
Why Go: So your wee ones can have their photo taken in an authentic Victorian holiday setting with the jolly old elf.
Cost: The first photo is $5, and additional shots are additional $4 each. All proceeds go to the Parsippany Historical and Preservation Society.


Where/When: Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at Fred Astaire Dance, 2 Changebridge Road, Montville
Why Go: You want to enjoy some social dancing and great music—and bring your friends, family and/or favorite dishes.
Cost: Free


When/Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Hibiscus Restaurant, Morristown
Why Go: Because you enjoy smooth jazz with your Caribbean cuisine.
Cost: Free to attend, but you might look like a freeloader if you don't order a meal.


When/Where: 8 p.m. Friday at Mayo Performing Arts Center, Morristown
Why Go: Because you want a taste of city yuks.
Cost: $25


When/Where: Saturday, Sunday, various times in Morristown
Why Go: Because Santa will be there! And, other fun holiday stuff.
Cost: Free


When/Where: 9:30 a.m. Saturday at College of St. Elizabeth
Why Go: You're looking for some unique holiday gift ideas, or just want to browse.
Cost: $5

When/Where: 6 p.m. Sunday at Zebu Forno, Morristown
Why Go: You want to get all artistic and stuff.
Cost: $10 includes two slices of pizza, drink and three hours with model.
