UPDATED: Kinnelon Police: Outage Caused By Snapped Poles

Fayson Lakes Road was blocked by police after electrical poles damaged.

continued to be on the scene Tuesday morning where two electrical poles snapped at the entrance of Lakeview Terrace, off Fayson Lakes Road in Kinnelon Monday night.

Residents in the neighborhood of Lakeview Terrace, and across the street, experienced a power outage that began around 4 p.m. and ended around 9:30 p.m., residents said.

Police said Monday they believed the poles were damaged as a result of a tree potentially falling on the poles or the electric wires. Thick black electric wires drooped into the snow Monday, as Butler Electric Department, the power company that services Kinnelon, worked to resolve the issue and restore power into the night.

Police blocked off Fayson Lakes Road between Toboggan Trail and Dogwood Trail. Lakeview Terrace was entirely blocked off, forcing residents to either wait in the parking lot of Lake Reality, or leave their cars behind and walk to their homes by a path that wraps around the lake.

Chief John Finkle said Butler Electric worked on repairing power until about 9:30 p.m. Monday.

On Tuesday morning, Finkle said residents would have access to the road, but should use caution.

"It is open, but Verizon is out there now," he said.

Police said they were unsure how many homes were affected by the outage. Repair teams were on the scene Monday evening and again Tuesday evening.
