Kinnelon's Hispanic Population Doubles In 10 Years

New information from the Census Bureau shows more Hispanic or Latino residents living in borough.

Kinnelon's Hispanic and Latino population has nearly doubled since 2000, according to new information from the

While there were 218 Hispanic or Latino families living in Kinnelon in 2000, Census results showed 418 Hispanic or Latino families living in Kinnelon in 2010.

"I think that the fact that we have increased our diversity speaks volumes of the type of community we have," Mayor Robert Collins said.

Additionally, Kinnelon saw a large increase in its Asian Indian population, Chinese population and senior citizen population.

Over the past 10 years, the borough has acquired more residents who have homes in the borough for recreational or occupational use (47 from 19), but also more than doubled the number of vacant housing units (128 from 61).

Overall, Kinnelon's population saw an increase larger than that of its neighboring boroughs, and

"Of course, I'm pleased with the increase in the number of our residents," Collins said. "I think it speaks well about the community because we are such a desired community to live in."
