Murder Trial Verdict Not Yet Reached for Butler Woman

A state Superior Court jury tasked with reaching a verdict in the murder trial of Butler woman Amalia Mirasola did not come to a decision after a full day of deliberations Wednesday.

The jury spent the time listening to recorded witness testimony again, according to nj.com. 

Amalia Mirasola, 47, is accused of shooting her husband, Carl Mirasola, six times inside their Roosevelt Avenue home on May 22, 2010. When she took the witness stand last week, Mirasola said she shot her husband in self-defense and that he had threatened to take her children away from her.

During the trial, jurors learned that Carl Mirasola was seeing a girlfriend and that the Mirasolas' kids were familiar with her. One of their daughters, Vanessa, also took the witness stand and said she often felt like she did not have a mother, describing a tense family relationship at home leading up to the shooting.

When jurors meet again Thursday, they could decide not to find Mirasola guilty of murder, but instead find her guilty of a lesser charge of aggravated manslaughter, nj.com reported.
