The new legislation would reduce fees for breweries and allow increased production, which is intended to lead to future growth for the New Jersey businesses. The bill was introduced by Assemblyman Craig Coughlin (D-Middlesex) and also has the support of Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean Jr. (R-Union) and Assemblyman Jon Bramnick (R-Union).

Currently, New Jersey's brewpubs are only allowed to produce 3,000 barrels per year but would be able to produce up to 10,000 per year under the new legislation, while microbreweries that are now only allowed to produce 300,000 barrels would be allowed to produce 500,000.
