The snow began Thursday night, with slippery road conditions and reduced visibility expected through the Friday morning commute.

According to Dr. David A. Robinson, the state's climatologist and chairman of the Department of Geography at Rutgers, this season so far has been the third-snowiest in 62 years.

Only the winters of 1960-61 and 1995-96 have seen more snow before the end of January since 1948-49, Robinson said. "And yes, I realize January is not over...though we would need over a foot of snow between now and Jan. 31 to surpass the other two winters," he said.

Patch will continue to provide updates throughout the storm.
