Passaic County Receives Award for Transportation Initiative

Moving Passaic County program designed to create a more cohesive transportation system.

Passaic County has been honored for its commitment to economic growth, environmental sustainability, and mobility.

The county’s Department Planning and Economic Development will receive a New Jersey Future Smart Growth Award. New Jersey Future is nonprofit organization that promotes responsible land-use policies in the Garden State to help revitalize cities and towns and protect open spaces.

The department received the award for its Moving Passaic County transportation initiative. The initiative is designed to create a more cohesive transportation system and improve infrastructure. The borough of Bloomingdale is one of the supporters of the program.

“It was gratifying to see that, even though we’re still in difficult economic times, imaginative development solutions and ideas still abound in the Garden State,” said Pam Mount, an New Jersey Future trustee and chairwoman of the selection committee. “The plans and projects being recognized this year are outstanding examples of smart-growth thinking that can be adapted widely.”

The department is one of six agencies to receive a Smart Growth Award this year.
