Pit Bull Reported Stolen From Bloomingdale Animal Shelter

Shelter volunteer believes dog may have been stolen by couple in light blue or gray car.

is asking the community to be on the lookout for a 4-year-old white Pit bull named they believe was allegedly stolen from the shelter Tuesday at around 11:30 a.m.

BASS President Ellen Ribitzki said shelter volunteers believe may have been taken by a couple in a light blue or gray compact car with tinted windows and an unpainted front panel.

According to Ribitzki, the couple had come into the shelter and were inquiring about the adoption process. A volunteer had informed them they would need to fill out an application.

As the volunteer was attending to cats in another building, they returned to find Sugar missing from her cage, the hook normally used to walk her was hung up on the wall. After that, Ribitzki said the volunteer saw the car drive away.

Ribitzki said Sugar's cage is right by the door, but that she did not believe Sugar had escaped.

"She's one of those dogs that would rather be in her kennel than escaping," she said.

If Sugar was stolen, Ribitzki said this would not be the first time a dog was taken from the Bloomingdale Animal Shelter.

"A couple of years ago, Tank was stolen overnight and found dumped weeks later in Bloomingdale in very poor shape," she said.
